Noho Marae for Facilitators : Thursday 6 November - Friday 7 November 2025
Would you like to feel more comfortable and confident facilitating in Māori spaces?
Do you wonder how to respectfully and authentically acknowledge Māori culture in your facilitation mahi?
Would you like to learn in a safe space and have those tricky questions answered?
The Facilitators Network is supporting Puawaananga to bring you a 2 day / 1 night noho marae especially for facilitators.
Aimed at beginner to intermediate learners, this noho is a chance to experience tikanga Māori, in a Māori space, to develop your knowledge base and sharpen your cultural facilitation skills. Throughout the noho you will get loads of practical tips and gems to support you in your cultural capability journey. Plus, there’s time to explore the questions and challenges that are important to you. Mā te kimi ka kite, Mā te kite ka mōhio, Mā te kite ka mōhio ka mārama. (Seek and discover; discover and know; know and become enlightened.)
In this noho, you will:
✅ Learn about the history of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and contemporary issues.
When you understand the intention behind Aotearoa New Zealand’s founding document, it gives you context around issues in contemporary society and helps you understand the part you can play as non-Māori.
✅ Experience tikanga Māori and principles, while working on pronunciation and te reo Māori that you can use in your mahi.
Experiencing concepts such as manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, tapu and noa first hand will equip you with powerful life lessons. Interweaving reo with correct pronunciation into your work and everyday life is a small, but big, way you can be part of revitalising te reo Māori in Aotearoa.
✅ Learn the why behind cultural practices and values.
There are lots of facilitators who want to incorporate tikanga and reo Māori into their mahi, but feel unsure about how to do this without stepping on toes. When you know the why, you can be humbly confident that you’re working from the right place.
✅ Ask tricky questions and problem solve using the wisdom in the room.
If you’ve had little to do with the Māori world and don’t understand why things are the way they are, this is your chance to ask the questions that you’ve been sitting on, because you haven’t wanted to cause offense. This is a chance to learn in a safe space where you don’t have to worry about putting your foot in it.
